Samaritan House was established 40 years ago by the Virginia Beach faith community. It was originally created to combat homelessness but has since expanded its mission to include aid to victims of domestic violence and human trafficking.
Samaritan House maintains 13 shelter homes scattered throughout Virginia Beach. Individuals and families (over half are children) are provided with basic needs, such as clothing and food, as well as personal hygiene and household items.
Samaritan House employs a holistic approach to break the cycle of violence for hundreds of families in our community, making it the leading resource in the area. Services for individuals and families include:
· Counseling
· Victim advocacy
· Medical assistance
· Daycare and after-school programs
· Nutritional support
· Transportation
· Vocational training
Samaritan House recently completed construction of The Hallow, a licensed residential facility for underage victims of Human Trafficking. As the vast majority (89%) of trafficking victims helped by Samaritan House are female, the facility will initially house eight girls. They will be provided with supervision, care, and a wide variety of programs to help them heal.
Bayside continues to donate to Samaritan House on a quarterly basis. Our Community Service Team will hold its annual “Oh, Baby” drive in May. The congregation will be asked to donate baby and toddler items -- clothes, diapers, towels/toiletries and furniture-- that will be given to Samaritan House for use by families in emergency housing. Thank you for your continued support!
