Rev. Dr. F. Harry Daniel, Intentional Interim Pastor,
He has been serving as interim pastor for the past seven months at First
Presbyterian Church, Hilton Head Island, SC. This was his eleventh interim
pastorate. He is a graduate of Davidson College and Columbia Theological
Seminary and received his Ph. D. in New Testament from Vanderbilt University.
We welcome his leadership in this transition.
His wife, Betty, is an accomplished anthropologist, scholar, researcher
and writer who has two master's degrees. They have grown twin daughters.
In addition to his continuing interest in Biblical studies, his great hobby
interest is in Civil War history. He is also particularly interested in
the Middle East and its history and problems.
The most recent churches he has served as interim pastor (before Hilton
Head) are Second Presbyterian Church, Lexington, KY, First Presbyterian
Church, Spartanburg, SC, First Presbyterian Church, Tupelo, MS, and First
Presbyterian Church, LaGrange, GA. His last installed pastorate was at
Decatur Presbyterian Church, Decatur, GA, from 1985 to 1994. |

Ben Skidmore, Associate Pastor, came to Bayside in
November of 2006. He grew up in the mountains of Colorado, went to
college in Manhattan, Kansas, and attended seminary at Fuller Theological
Seminary in Pasadena, California. While at Fuller he met his wife,
Erica. The Skidmores live near Mt. Trashmore and have a grumpy cat
named Zoey. Ben and Erica are both excited about Bayside and look
forward to becoming a part of the life and ministry here. |

Dr. Daniel Dickenson, Interim Associate Pastor, began
service with us on December 1 2007 on a part-time basis. He was educated
at Washington and Lee University and Union Theological Seminary in Virginia
(B.D., 1957: Th.M., 1963; and D.Min., 1973). He has also done continuing
education at Vanderbilt University Divinity School, St. Andrews University
in Scotland, Princeton Theological Seminary and Old Dominion University.
He attended Interim Pastor Training at Montreat eleven years ago. A native
of Danville, Va, Dan served pastorates in Lexington and Berryville, before
coming to Lafayette Presbyterian Church in Norfolk in 1970. In 1977 he
became the first executive director/president of Westminster-Canterbury
on Chesapeake Bay. After 1985 he served as executive director of three
retirement communities in Florida and Pennsylvania, and as as a regional
vice-president of the American Retirement Corporation in Nashville. When
he retired in 1996, he and his wife, Margaret Boyer Dickenson, returned
to Norfolk to be near their family. Margaret died quite suddenly and unexpectedly
two years later. Dan has served several short term interim pastorates,
at Calvin Presbyterian Church in Norfolk last year, Greenbrier Church in
Chesapeake and at Second Church, Denbigh Church and Hilton Church, all
in Newport News. In 2002-2003 he was stated supply at Christ Presbyterian
Church for nine months. Dan and Karen have been married almost nine years
and live at Westminster-Canterbury. Their families include five children
and seven grandchildren, all of whom live in Norfolk or Virginia Beach. |

Rev. Dr. J. Barry Shatzer, Parish Associate Pastor.
Born
and raised in Charleston, SC. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in
Religion/Philosophy from Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC; Master of
Divinity from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, VA; Doctor of Ministry
(D.Min.) from Lexington Theological Seminary in Lexington, KY; and, MBA
from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA.
Rev. Shatzer was ordained by the Presbytery of the Blue Ridge in August
1978 and his first pastorate was of Diamond Hill and Hat Creek Presbyterian
Churches, Campbell County, VA. Other pastorates included First Presbyterian
Church, Middlesboro, KY; McDonough Presbyterian Parish, Macomb, IL; Ainsworth
Community Church, Ainsworth, IA; and, LaCrosse Memorial Presbyterian Church,
Hampton, VA.
He has been involved as organizer and member of many civic and volunteer
activities, such as: American Red Cross Chapter Chairman; Certified ARC
instructor: International Concerns Committee of Presbytery of East Iowa;
Middle East Concerns Committee of the Iowa Conference of the United Methodist
Church; Peacemaking Committee of Presbytery of East Iowa; Peace Advocate
for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.); Highlands School District Multicultural
Nonsexist Advisory Committee; Washington Ministerial Association; Washington
Area Child Abuse Network; Washington Ministerial Association's Committee
for the support of Desert Storm families; adjunct instructor at St. Leo
University; Disaster Preparedness Committee of Presbytery of Eastern Virginia;
Chaplain, Civil Air Patrol; Certified by the Commonwealth of Virginia in
"Search and Rescue"; and Peninsula First Responder’s Unit.
He enjoys working on the computer, fishing, reading history and enjoying
his son Ed. Ed, then a graduate student in Counseling at Radford
University, was one of the first responders to work with the victims of
the Virginia Tech massacre April 16, 2007.

Marty Rich, Computer Operator / Secretary, became a part of
the Bayside Presbyterian Church staff on July 15, 1993 as the church’s
office secretary. Some of her duties include preparing the weekly church
bulletin, and Bayside's monthly newsletter, keeping the worship attendance
on the computer, and maintaining membership records. She and her husband,
Dan, who is retired U.S. Navy, have lived in the Tidewater area for 38
years. They are originally from the same small town in Illinois. They have
three grown children, seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and
three step great-grandchildren. She is an active member of Haygood United
Methodist Church where she is the financial secretary. Marty enjoys walking,
biking, and camping. Her hobbies are crocheting and reading. She collects
angels and turtles. |

Rita Candrilli, Administrative Secretary, joined Bayside Presbyterian's
staff in January 2001 as the Administrative Secretary. In her duties, she
maintains all the church records, baptisms, marriages, member logs, and
deaths. She schedules and coordinates all the vast magnitude of meetings
and events that utilize Bayside’s facilities. Rita also serves as secretary
to Dr. Keever and the associate pastors, providing administrative assistance
needed for them as well as Session. A native of Long Island, New York,
Rita moved to Virginia Beach in the early 1970’s. Rita has three children,
two sons and one daughter, and absolutely dotes on her seven grandchildren.
She loves to travel. During her former position at Operation Smile, she
had the opportunity to visit the Philippines and Venezuela doing medical
mission work. One day, Rita plans on fulfilling her dream vacation and
visit California. Rita loves her position here at Bayside Presbyterian.
She thoroughly enjoys working with Dr. Keever and the Christian atmosphere
that surrounds her. |

Kathleen Armstrong, Preschool Director
With a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Kathleen graduated from Old
Dominion University in 1980. She returned to ODU in 1992 through May 1994
where she completed another 60 hours and earned a teaching certification
for grades 4 – 8 with an emphasis in the areas of math and science. Kathleen
has been a teacher in the 5-day fours class since September 1994 at the
preschool. She became Director in June 2005. She has been married to William
(Bill) since January 1982. All three of their children attended Bayside
Presbyterian Preschool starting with Robert (Bobby) who graduated from
James Madison University in May 2004 and now resides in New York City.
Their second child is Bay who attends Old Dominion University and graduated
from Bayside High in 2003. Their daughter Laura is in the Health Sciences
Academy at Bayside where she will be graduating in June 2006. Kathy enjoys
reading, walking and spending time with her family and friends. But most
of all, she enjoys being with all the wonderful children of our preschool. |

Dan Wiard, Director of Education Ministries, is a certified
educator with twenty plus years of experience. He holds an undergraduate
degree in psychology and a master’s degree in Christian Education. His
previous ministries include serving as an educator in both small and large
churches, plus serving on a Presbytery staff as educator. One aspect in
ministry Dan particularly enjoys is working with young people. It is not
unusual to find Dan "playing" with the youth, whether it is a game of mud
football or a game of chess; it's all a part of the work he enjoys. His
favorite food is lasagna. His favorite sport is "anything with action and
you don't have to jump too high! Cycling is GREAT!" His favorite "Thing"
to do away from work is to spend time with wife and kids! |

Bill Bertholf, Building Superintendent, has been an active church
member helping out at Bayside for over seven years. After 25 years of service,
Bill retired from the U.S. Navy and has done a variety of jobs including
car salesman, working as a landscaper and all-around handyman. Now as the
Building Super, he keeps things running and coordinates contractors working
at the church. Bill and his wife Rhonda have lived in the Tidewater area
for over 15 years. They have two children, a son who is a junior in high
school and a daughter who is in her second year at Virginia Commonwealth
University. When not working at the church, Bill keeps himself busy doing
volunteer work with the winter homeless shelter task force, Judeo Christian
Outreach Center, a summer swim league and the Pembroke Meadows swimming
pool board. |

Catherine M. Grant, Director of Music Ministries, is a native
of Virginia who earned her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from Indiana
University, and studied organ with Clyde Holloway. She later earned a Master
of Arts degree in Church Music and Christian Education from the Presbyterian
School of Christian Education, where she studied with David McCormick.
She is an active member of the American Guild of Organists, and has served
churches in Indiana, Virginia, South Carolina, and West Virginia. Since
coming to Bayside in June of 2000, she has become active in the Tidewater
Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, as well as managed the busy,
multi-faceted music program at Bayside. Her son, Tommy Grant, is a graduate
of West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV. Her interests include gardening,
folk music and dancing, languages, travelling to new places, and meeting
people. |
